Jay Sean speaks about asian flavours
Jay Sean, 37 – rose to fame in the UK’s Asian Underground scene with the likes of Rishi Rich, Juggy D and Don Dee. In a recent interview he said he moved away from using Bhangra influences in his music for fear of being stereotyped.
“When I make my music I try to be as least contrived as possible,” he told London Live.
“When I did the Asian flavour it was new and nobody had done it. It was a whole different style and it was well received. Then other people started doing it and it wasn’t my sound anymore – so I thought ‘I’m not going to be that guy who always puts an Indian thing in every song’.” Jay tells Evening standard.
He joked: “Imagine I have a song like Adele’s Someone Like You and I [add that sound] it’s not going to work. I take each song for what it is.”
